The Bible establishes the role of
Deacons in the life of the church in 1 Timothy 3:8-13 and
Philippians 1:1, and also in less direct ways by virtue of the word
itself: "diakonia" in the original Greek, which means "to serve,"
and is used through Scripture. Apparently God knew his people would
need living examples of servant-hearts actively working within the
Body of Christ...and so we are blessed to have Deacons.
In particular BFCC Deacons serve
communion in our worship services each Sunday and collect the
offerings. Deacons also assist the Elders in visiting shut-ins (and
offering them communion), helping our shut-ins and elderly with
small home repairs and project needs (our "Deacon Care" program), clearing snow around the
church on Sunday mornings, and participating in mission trips and
local work days. They teach the family of God, by example, how to
serve like Jesus.
Our current 2008 roster of super-serving
Deacons includes:
Aaron Adams (chair of the Deacons), Adrian Meyer, Merlin Fobes, Ken Moeller, Robie Smith, Justin Rice, Howard Wehrman, Rod Pearson, Randy
Doggett, Gary Allen, Joel Applegate, Terry Bailey, Joey Behrends,
Shane Thompson, Jim Kadel, Keith Williams, Max McGaughey, Dave
Hughes, Brian Gates, Dan Streit, Scott Ahlvers, Jason Chancellor,
Loren Heller.
