History

Beloit First Christian Church was founded in 1886 by 12 men and 17 women. They first met in an upstairs room at 113 N. Mill Street before constructing a church building in 1893 at our present site, 4th and Mill. Over 120 years later, buildings and culture have changed, but one thing has remained the same—an intense desire to love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ as a faithful community of believers.

FRONTIER RESTORATION MOVEMENT
BFCC's beginnings occurred during what is known as the Restoration Movement on the American frontier. Pioneer preachers Barton Stone, and a father/son team named Thomas and Alexander Campbell, joined together in 1832 in a movement that sought to get beyond the divisive layers of traditions that had become established in Protestant churches. Their primary hope was to return to a more Biblical model of the church.

BFCC still holds to the basic tenets that defined that movement:

  • Belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the ultimate authority in the life of the believer
  • Belief that the models and patterns of church life in the New Testament were meant to demonstrate God’s plan for the church through the ages
  • Belief that God intended His church to be united, not divided
  • Agreement on the essential beliefs of the New Testament faith, and grace for different understandings of non-essential beliefs can create the unity God intended for His church.
